I am an Applied & Data Scientist at Microsoft. I work with the Bing Ads – Revenue and Relevance group on improving the relevance of search ads to user queries.
I have a PhD degree in Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval from the University of Michigan. I also hold a MSc degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Michigan. I received my BSc degree in Computer Engineering from the Islamic University of Gaza, Palestine.
The focus of my PhD was on building systems that can model the ways people use natural languages to express their opinions. I applied my research to two domains: political and ideological discussions on social media sites and citations in scholarly articles.
My current focus is on using NLP, IR, and Machine Learning techniques to develop models that are capable of understanding search queries and selecting the most relevant ads to the user intent.
